The Evolution of the Taggy Giraffe

If you haven’t already met him……let me introduce my favourite little guy the Taggy Giraffe Rattle.

A looong time back one of the first things I started making were toys. This little guy came about after a few sketches of a little giraffe. My original plan was much more complex…he had eyes and ears…but as I started to draft up patterns I realised I preferred him to be quite a simple outline. Of course his main feature was his mane! It is well known how much babies love tags. Tag toys are quite popular these days and are based on the theory that babies are often more intrigued by the attached to the toy than the toy itself.

With that in mind and wanting a simple easy to grasp toy the taggy giraffe was born. Looking back at some of the earlier ones it is easy to see the evolution of the Ollie Rose species. His face is always changing so even though he doesn’t have any defining facial features he always seems to have  a different personality. Some have long snouts, others more snub. Then his legs grew longer and longer, all the better to be grasped by chubby little hands. Then his “skins” are always changing and I love custom making him to match clothing or other accessories so he makes a perfect gift.

So whilst I think I have finalised a design I am happy with…who knows how he will evolve next!

The newer species. Note his longer legs for easier grasping.

A “tower” of giraffe’s. (yes that is what it really is called…see here!)

And to demonstrate just how much babies love him here are some super sweet shots of them being put to good use sent in by some lovely customers. The very cute Marlie who looks as though he isn’t giving his up in a hurry and  the sweet Zoe who looks mesmerized by hers and adorable Ari who has decided he will see how much he can fit in his mouth! The set is even more gorgeous IRL and I love the giraffe. Trena , VIC

Hi ladies, just to let you know the giraffee toy i got from the markets is a huge hit  with my niece. She wasnt much of a fan of the dummy so now she has a new  best friend with shoes to match! Emma, Geraldton WA

So if you are looking for the perfect little something for a new baby, a sweet handmade first toy you can’t go past the taggy giraffe. Find them here and if there isn’t quite one to suit don’t hesitate to ask to have one custom made.
